Spring at Tarrywile

Today, March 20th marks the 1st day of Spring but it is New England, therefore tomorrow’s forecast also calls for anywhere from 6 to 12″ of snow. Get the bread, get the milk, get gas for the snowblower but most of all just stay safe.

As quickly as it falls, within a few days it will have melted off. We are hoping that the snow melts off in time for the Macaroni Kid Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday. The event benefits Tarrywile but you must pre-register. So check out their website; Macaroni Kid

Here at Tarrywile, spring also means muddy trails. We will occasionally close trails if these conditions are too bad. Please be respectful if you see one of these signs and know that hiking on muddy trails will cause damage to the trail so please pick another area to hike.

Spring Hiking Tips

Here are some tips to help you navigate Spring hiking:

Wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. Make sure they are tied snugly. There is nothing worse than feeling your food sink into mud and as you move forward realize that your shoe is somewhere in that mud behind you.
Bring dry socks and shoes for when you are don with your hike.
Use hiking/trekking poles. They will help you navigate those muddy and wet areas with more confidence.
Stick to the trail. Even if other areas of the trail area appear less muddy, chances are they are just as wet.
